Use your Samsung Side button to open JobBuddy and start JODA Talk

Assign JobBuddy to the Double press action of your Samsung Galaxy Side button. After setup, double-press the Side button to open JobBuddy, then tap JODA and Talk to start listening.

Before you begin

  • Your phone must be a Samsung Galaxy with the Side button setting under Settings → Advanced features. Menu names vary slightly between One UI versions.
  • Install the current JobBuddy app from Google Play and sign in before you assign the button.
  • Allow JobBuddy to record audio when Android asks so JODA Talk can listen.
  • Assigning JobBuddy to Double press replaces the action that is currently there, which is usually the camera.
  • Samsung reserves the press-and-hold action for its assistant and the power menu, so use Double press for JobBuddy.

Set up the Side button

  1. Open Side button settings

    Open Settings on your Samsung phone, tap Advanced features, then tap Side button.

    If you cannot find it, use the search field at the top of Settings and search for Side button.

  2. Assign JobBuddy to Double press

    Tap Double press, then choose Apps. On older One UI versions this option is called Open app.

    Select JobBuddy from the list of installed apps, then leave Settings.

    Expected result: The Side button screen shows JobBuddy under Double press.

    Some apps show a gear icon in this list so you can pick a specific function. JobBuddy does not offer one yet, so a double press opens the app rather than JODA Talk directly.

  3. Double-press to open JobBuddy

    Press the Side button twice quickly. JobBuddy opens even when your phone is on another app.

    If the camera opens instead, the double-press action was not saved. Return to Settings → Advanced features → Side button and check it again.

    Expected result: JobBuddy is in the foreground with the bottom bar visible.

  4. Tap JODA, then Talk

    Tap JODA in the bottom bar to open the JODA conversation screen.

    Tap the yellow Talk button next to the message field. JODA Talk opens and starts listening automatically. The first time, allow JobBuddy to record audio when Android asks.

    Speak normally, then tap End when you are finished.

    Expected result: JODA Talk displays Listening and the active voice controls.

    Two taps every time

    The path is always the same: double press, JODA, Talk. After a few uses it takes about as long as unlocking the phone.

How this differs from iPhone

On a supported iPhone, JobBuddy adds an Open JODA Talk control that the Action Button can run directly, so one press-and-hold starts listening.

Samsung phones do not offer that kind of app control on the Side button. The Double press action opens JobBuddy, and you finish the trip with JODA and Talk inside the app.

The JODA Talk screen itself works the same way on both platforms, including Mute, End, and the approval cards that appear when JODA proposes a change.

Troubleshooting

Side button is not listed under Advanced features.

Search Settings for Side button. If it is still missing, the phone is not running Samsung One UI and this article does not apply.

JobBuddy is not in the Apps list.

Install JobBuddy from Google Play, open it once, and sign in. Then return to Settings → Advanced features → Side button → Double press → Apps.

A double press still opens the camera.

Return to Settings → Advanced features → Side button and confirm that JobBuddy is shown under Double press. Press twice quickly rather than pausing between presses.

Pressing and holding opens Gemini or Bixby instead of JobBuddy.

That is expected. Samsung reserves the press-and-hold action for its assistant or the power menu. Use a double press for JobBuddy.

JODA Talk opens but does not listen.

Open Settings → Apps → JobBuddy → Permissions → Microphone and choose Allow only while using the app. Also confirm that your phone has an internet connection.

What happens next

  • After setup, a double press of the Side button opens JobBuddy from anywhere, and JODA then Talk starts a listening session.
  • Use Mute during the conversation or tap End when the session is finished.
  • Changes that JODA proposes appear as approval cards in the conversation and wait for your confirmation.
